Description

Please join us for our free-guided trail walks on Thursdays.  All walks are at 10 AM unless stated to the contrary. We will visit various local conservation properties, including some of our own Westerly Land Trust preserves.  Walks are between 1 ½ to 3 hours and are open to all ages with our target group being agile seniors.  Please keep in mind that these are wooded trails with stumps, roots and rocks so be sure to wear hiking boots or good walking shoes. If the weather is icy you should bring stabilizers or something for traction. Be aware that our hikes leave promptly so be on time!

Francis C. Carter Memorial Preserve, Charlestown

This hike on Nature Conservancy property has hilly wooded trails for easy walking and beautiful scenery. Meet at the preserve’s parking area off Rte 112, which is marked, with signs in both directions of travel. From I-95, take Exit 3A - Rte 138 East. Follow Rte 138 East to the intersection with Rte 112, at the Richmond School. Bear right onto Rte 112 and follow south through Carolina. Continue straight through the intersection with Rte 91 and over the railroad bridge. Travel approx. 1/2 mile and the preserve entrance will be on the right, marked by a sign. From Rte 1 take Rte 112, approximately 4 miles, continuing past Old Mill Road to Francis Carter Preserve sign and entrance on the left.
