Description
Visitors, Museum volunteers and staff join together to read aloud Herman Melville's "Moby-Dick" or "The Whale" in a 24-hour marathon event aboard the whaleship, Charles W. Morgan. 2012 marks the 161st anniversary of the novel's first publishing in 1851. "Mr. Melville" himself kicks off the event by reading the first chapter, "Loomings" and returns to read the Epilogue. Participants continue taking turns reading aloud (everyone signs up for chapters as the event progresses). A great white birthday cake arrives at noon on August 1st — Melville's birthday — to celebrate the end of the marathon!
