Description

Charlestown Wine and Spirits (formerly Charlestown Package Store) opened in May 2011 as an energy-efficient, Sensibly Green, liquor store.  Designed and built by Oyster Works, CWS features a geothermal heating and cooling system, an energy efficient envelope, and computer controlled LED lighting.  An Energy Use Analysis for the first six months of operation shows that CWS is on track to use 65% less energy than comparable stores (compared to US Government Energy Star benchmarks.)

Charlestown Wine and Spirits’ project has been featured by NBC New Channel Ten,  Providence Business News, Providence Journal, and the Westerly Sun.  Governor Chafee, Senator Whitehouse, Congressmen Langevin and Cicilline, Representative Walsh, and EDC Director Stokes have all toured the store and met with Oyster Works.

On March 22nd @ 6:30 pm at the Westerly Land Trust building, Charlestown Wine and Spirits' owner, Jon Maldon; architect, Megan Moynihan; and project manager, Andrew Baer, will discuss the project and the decision to take a Sensibly Green approach.   Jon, Megan, and Andrew will give a detailed overview of the energy efficient systems and technologies and discuss the impact on operating costs and return on investment.
