SUMMARY:ECSO Concert - February 21 American Enginuity
DESCRIPTION:The ECSO's February 21 concert is named for Anthony DiLorenzo's trumpet concerto American Enginuity. Composed with ECSO Principal Trumpet Phil Snedecor in mind and premiered in 2019 by Snedecor and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra\, the piece honors four of our nation's greatest accomplishments: the transcontinental railroad\, the Wright Brothers' flight\, Henry Ford's Model T\, and the Apollo 11 moon landing. As an opener\, the orchestra will play the main theme from the 1960 film The Magnificent Seven\, also familiar to those who recall the TV commercials for Marlboro cigarettes. Composer of more than 150 motion picture scores\, Elmer Bernstein was known as "Bernstein West" to avoid confusion with "Bernstein East\," Leonard. Also on the program: American Rhapsody\, written for violin and orchestra in 2008 by UConn composition professor Kenneth Fuchs featuring ECSO Concertmaster Stephen Tieszen\; Anton n Dvor k???'s 1894-95 American Suite\, with a Slavic-sounding third movement and an East Asian-sounding fifth movement\; and the Missouri River folk song "Shenandoah\," arranged by Carmen Dragon.
