As an opener\, the orchestra will play the main theme from the 1960 film The Magnificent Seven\, also familiar to those who recall the TV commercials for Marlboro cigarettes. Composer of more than 150 motion picture scores\, Elmer Bernstein was known as "Bernstein West" to avoid confusion with "Bernstein East\," Leonard. Also on the program: American Rhapsody\, written for violin and orchestra in 2008 by UConn composition professor Kenneth Fuchs featuring ECSO Concertmaster Stephen Tieszen\; Anton n Dvor k???'s 1894-95 American Suite\, with a Slavic-sounding third movement and an East Asian-sounding fifth movement\; and the Missouri River folk song "Shenandoah\," arranged by Carmen Dragon.
